We can give you a rough range if you tell us the size of the door, whether it's one panel or original wood, and what it's doing (won't open, off track, spring snapped, opener dead). But the number that actually holds when we show up depends on things you can't always see from inside the house: the condition of the track, whether the drums match, how much rust is on the springs, and what's behind the trim.
A lot of the doors we're asked to quote sit on houses built between 1962 and 1994, and that matters more than people expect. Original hardware from that era wasn't built to today's cycle counts, and a spring that looks fine can be one cold morning from letting go. We'll ask your address, a photo if you can send one, and what year the door was put in if you know it. If you don't know, that's fine - we'll find out when we're standing in front of it.

What We Will Not Do
We won't quote a firm price on a spring job, a broken cable, or a bent track without seeing the door - those parts wear unevenly and a phone estimate is a coin flip. We won't push a new opener on a door that just needs a roller and a tune-up.
We also won't promise a same-day slot for every call. If you're out past Cloquet or up near Pike Lake, work farther in usually gets scheduled first, and we'll tell you that up front instead of stringing you along.

Farther out, we cover Esko at 12 miles, Carlton and Wrenshall around 16, and Cloquet at 18 - those trips take more planning around the rest of the day's schedule, so a bit of lead time helps. We've gone as far as Mahnomen at 19 miles for the right job, but that's the edge of what we'll commit a same-week slot to without checking the schedule first.
Duluth sits in a severe cold climate band, and that shapes what we look at on every call regardless of neighborhood - bottom seals, weather-stripping, whether cold has made the steel brittle enough to matter. It's not a separate charge, just part of what an honest look at the door includes here.

No. The cold does affect what we check - seals, weatherstripping, whether the steel has gotten brittle - but that's part of a normal look at the door, not an extra line item.
